Spinal Decompression Therapy

Spinal Decompression

HCRC offers spinal decompression services as well as traditionally used mechanical traction for neck and back pain. The decompression table (SpineMED) is designed to apply a distraction to the spine. More sophisticated than traditional traction, distraction can be applied with less reflex contraction of the muscles of the spine as the SpineMED table has a feedback loop system which monitors and changes the tension being applied to a patient every 2.5 milliseconds.

This tension applied to the spinal segments and related discs creates a negative pressure, which can help to reduce symptoms of sciatica from problems such as a disc bulge.

You may be appropriate for this if you have the following:

  • Disc bulge
  • Disc herniation
  • Degenerative disc disease
  • Sciatica caused from a disc injury.
  • Failed low back surgery & no hardware.

Conditions that are not appropriate to treat include:

  • Connective tissue disease
  • Spinal tumors
  • Spondylolisthesis grade 2 and above
  • Severe spinal instability
  • Surgical hardware in the spine.
  • Fractures of the spine or pars defects.
  • Severe osteoarthritis.

To become a candidate for an assessment:

  • Clients should have a recent x-ray (within one year)
  • CT or MRI would be beneficial
  • Please bring just the paper copy of the x-Ray MRI or CT report and not the actual x- rays or CD.

If you are interested in further information, please feel free to check out our Spinal Decompression website, email or call. We would be happy to send you additional information. If you are interested in pursuing treatment, contact the clinic for a consultation with a Physiotherapist.
